Grade 4
Grade 4
Topic: Tower Mania!
Learning Target:
Students will use their knowledge of geometric shapes to build a tower. Students will practice prediction and measurement.
Students will develop teamwork skills and show what they know in a digital creation.
Students will develop teamwork skills and show what they know in a digital creation.
4 C’s: Communication, Collaboration, Content Consumption
Learn: Investigation
1. Google Search or use Wikipedia to find 1 tower in the world.
2. Use Google Earth to view these towers in real time and record factual information about each one.
3. Share and discuss towers with small group. (Random Group Generator- SMART)
Do: Create, Collaborate, Review, Compare

Students will be competing in a global project hosted by Projects by Jen. In this project, students will create a tower, analyze the tower and compare their group findings to others.
1. Prediction: predict how high your group can build a tower in 18 minutes. Enter predictions in this shared Google Sheet.
2. Create: work as a team to build the tallest freestanding structure with a large marshmallow on top.
3. Apply Skills: measure final towers and enter measurement in this shared Google Sheet.
4. Analyze: Review results in the classroom and around the world. Class discussion/ reflection of results and process.
- What are the things you did that made the tower stronger?
- What changes did you make to your tower as you built it?
- Could you build a stronger tower with more of the same materials?
- What other materials might be better?
- Does the size of the base alter the strength of the tower?
- How do you think you worked as a group? Did you take on different jobs? Did all groups work in the same way?
Show What You Know
Create a digital project using Adobe Voice
- Select template that is most fitting to report out on the process, results and reflection
- Use AirDrop to share photos
- use AirPlay to share creations
- For those who need more guidance- use Share a Growth Moment structure
